The people of the African republic of Somaliland voted in 1991 to become an independent nation. They argue that there are enough cultural, political and social differences between them and the people of Somalia to make Somaliland a separate country, as was the case briefly in 1960. But the world has not yet formally recognized an independent Somaliland, a cause dear to the hearts of its people. Cathy Majtenyi files this report for VOA on the push for international recognition. Somalilanders stress that their country is peaceful and orderly -- a fully functional state in sharp contrast to the chaotic warlord system and weak central government of Somalia. The British had a strong presence in Somaliland by the late 1800s, with Somaliland becoming a British protectorate, separate from Italian-ruled lands to the south. Berbera port also served the US navy in the 1980s during the first Gulf war.

Goboladda Somaliland in almost 10 minutes. it is just a Taste, cuz u have 2 visit the beauty's of our Goboladena.

There is rumors that Kenya plans to pass a law calling for the recognition of Somaliland in its parlimant by the early 2009 or December this year; recently there have been alot of Kenyan parliamentarians on a find fact mission to Somaliland, Kenyan investors and finally Kenya is interested in solving the problem in Somalia they will even send forces to Mogadishu, they finally can see that Somalia is not only a threat to Somaliland, Djibouti and Ethiopia but also Kenya and its time they wake up and did something about it. The best solution is recognising Somaliland and circling on the troubled south, and together all of us (Ethiopia, Djibouti, Kenya and Somaliland) we can influence different groups in the south to find a solution for their country. We can no longer watch them kill themselves and take their refugees in, its costly, its risky (alot of terrorists infiltrate into the refugee camps and make their way into our cities). Kenya wake up and act now, we (Somaliland and Kenya) are right now the only true democracies in the Horn of Africa, if not the entire East Africa. Its time we worked together. Most African states support Somaliland except Arab states who want to use united Somalia to fight their proxy wars for instance using it as terrorist cell and sending suiciders into Nairobi, Addis Ababa, Kampala, etc. Hopefully fat Saudis will wake up after their tanker was hijacked that Somalia will never be peaceful and they dont respect anyone, time to let it go and accept the reality, accept Somaliland. Also notice that the Islamic Courts fighters (Al Shabaab); were not happy that Saudi tanker was hijacked because they are 'Muslim country' just proves my point that Saudia is a snake with many heads, sucking up to West while it funds Islamic jihadists across the global at the same time. Educated Arab nations like United Arab Empirates support Somaliland, the problem is terrorist financisers like Libya, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Sudan. Kenya, Ethiopia, Senegal, Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda, Djibouti, and Tanzania all support somaliland and have some ties, some more than others. United States now supports and funds Somaliland democracy, it has friends like Sweden, Norway, Wales, Ireland, Germany, United Kingdom and France in Europe. Infact France's 3rd largest bank will soon open branches in Somaliland, Somaliland universities will be offering French courses, French navy will be training Somaliland army...while 50% of the overall aid to Somalia by United Kingdom goes to Somaliland and UK plans to increase it to Somaliland in the near future. Wales has always been a good friend of Somaliland, soon schools and universities in Cardiff will have strong ties with Somaliland education system. So is South Africa and Malaysia. I think Somaliland needs to establish ties with India, Taiwan, Israel and Brazil next. Somalia's terrorists, dictators, warlords financized by Arab states hate to see democratic Somaliland, they always try to derail this institution, Arabs in the region do not wish to have a democratic Somaliland on the next door either, for the same reason they deannounce the existance of Israel, they hate democratic states, they want to run a police state and don't want their citizens to get ideas from next door democratic nations. Those Arab sheikhs see this as a threat to their monarchies and supreme power over their citizens.
